What Is openAI?

open AI

Recently a tool became immensely popular because it can respond to questions asked by human users in a human-like way except the fact that it’s a machinery tool. The popular name of this tool is ChatGPT. It became famous and received the attention of the internet.

People from all around the world use this tool to write lyrics for songs, Scripts for TV episodes, etc. This incident made people interested in the company that made that tool. Though OpenAI has become popular in recent times companies like Microsoft noticed it for quite a long time. Let’s find out everything about OpenAI.

What Is OpenAI:

Elon Musk, Sam Altman, and others created the business in 2015 and built the headquarters in San Francisco. The goal of that company is to advance and guide artificial intelligence (AI) in ways that benefit all of humanity. That company is OpenAI, a for-profit research facility.

By the time OpenAI was developed in part due to the creators’ existential worries about the possibility of disaster brought on by the irresponsible usage and abuse of general-purpose AI. The organization has a long-term focus on the capabilities and basic advancements of AI.

The company had a $1 billion endowment when it was founded by the company’s founders and other investors. Elon Musk left the organization in February 2018 because of a possible conflict of interest with his work at Tesla, the automaker and clean energy firm founded by Nikola Tesla.

The main motto of the company is to build and develop a safe AGI (artificial general intelligence) that helps people all over the world. OpenAI is completely ready for any other organizations that did their research on this sector or any person who did this research related to OpenAI.

The company has already revealed its research and patents in order to remain public and open to normal people. But they stop where the company thinks that the company’s details can have a negative impact on society and can affect their safety.

History Of OpenAI:

History of open AI

At the time when the company OpenAI was founded, the main purpose of the company was to create and develop machine learning AI tools for video games. This company also dedicates itself to other recreational purposes.

OpenAI was officially created on 11th December 2015 and within a year the company released an open-source toolkit to develop RI (reinforcement learning) algorithms and named it Open Gym as its first AI offering. In the upcoming years, the company will work on more general projects like AI research and AI development.

According to a report of OpenAI that was published in 2018 they gave a detailed explanation to the world about a GPT (Generative Pre-trained Transformer). As per the data of the report, a GPT is basically a neural network or a machine learning model that was created and developed to work as an actual human brain.

They made this with input like huge detailed sets of data so that this model could create and give outputs in the form of answers to the questions of the users. Till 2018 OpenAI was a nonprofit private research and development company but in 2019 it became a company that sought profit and formally changed its name to OpenAI LP.

At this time this company was controlled by a parent company called OpenAI Inc. After that there were no updates coming from the company but in 2021 they published breaking news about their research. At the start of the year, they reveal Dall-E.

It was a generative model that could analyze a human user’s normal language text and produce a picture based on the description of the given text. The most well-known product of the company is perhaps ChatGPT, which was introduced in November 2022 and hailed as the most sophisticated chatbot in the world.

It is considered the most sophisticated chatbot for its capacity to respond to users on an apparently limitless variety of themes. Its advantages and disadvantages, as well as its applications across different industries, are still up for debate.

Sam Altman, a co-founder, continues to lead the business even though Elon Musk is no longer on the board. Greg Brockman, a former CTO of the financial services and SaaS business Stripe serves as the company’s current president and chairman, while Ilya Sutskever, a former Google employee, is its chief scientist.

Microsoft VS OpenAI:

Microsoft started showing interest in OpenAI in 2019 when they signed a multiyear contract of partnership with Microsoft. In this partnership, Microsoft used OpenAI’s AI-based computing tools to enhance Microsoft’s cloud platform and Azure.

At the beginning of 2023, Microsoft finally publicly confirmed that they made a multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI. In this investment, Microsoft includes Bing the search engine to their deal. Microsoft is going to use the same technology that was used in the development of ChatGPT in Bing.

Microsoft is going to redevelop Bing as an AI-infused version of the previous one. Microsoft already added OpenAI’s AI-based tools and features to Microsoft’s Edge browser. And there are gonna add the functionality of ChatGPT to the Microsoft 365 products like Teams and Outlook.

But recently it looks like Microsoft wants to take its step back from the deal since OpenAI lost its goodwill because it put customers’ data at risk and big companies like Samsung, Spotify, and Apple restrict their employees from using ChatGPT. Let’s see what’s going to happen in the future.

Future Of OpenAI:

OpenAI announced their new upgrade in language model technology GPT-4 after their last upgrade GPT-3.5 (ChatGPT). According to the announcement, GPT-4 is going to be superior because it provides multimodel AI functionality and is going to analyze both text and pictures. It can be said that in the next year, OpenAI will cross $1 billion in revenue.

Conclusion:

conclusion about ai

OpenAI has not published any detailed reports on the plans of the company. But to sum it up it can be said that the Microsoft-OpenAI partnership can do wonders in the AI field. Based on the current investment and dependence on AI, it has become quite predictable that in the upcoming years, we all are going to use many AI tools without having any expertise regarding that.
